Follow kyles installation tips. If your bike is wired same as my 700s the other wires go to clutch switch, kill switch,and regulator/rectifier. If I were you I'd rewire new plug and check voltage on wire going to regulator /rectifier. On my 700s nighthawk that wire is white. Shouldn't be over 15 volts dc or so rev'd up. This wire puts the charge into the battery as you ride. Of course you'll need a multi meter to check. If your reading is high your regulator /rectifier may be on its way out. Hopefully the meltdown was from loose connection / high resistance. Those plugs should be a pain in the ass to plug in and unplug
