I hope that helps somebody. It wasn't original. It was something I
copy-paste-saved from this mailing list back in the day, maybe from Allen
Thomas, God rest his soul.

One thing I can add personally, because I figured it out on my bike. After
the winter, I would try to start it up and it would dump gas on my
transmission. One year I took the carbs off and cleaned them, and it still
did it afterward. Then I realized that the Advance Auto Parts clear gas
hose I had put on it (I didn't trust the petcock to shut off completely and
I wanted to see the gas) would dry out over the winter with no gas in it
and leak at where the line joined the carbs between #1 and #2.

Now, you may not be using clear gas line at all, but it is important to
know where the gas is really leaking from. If I had realized it was just
from a vinyl line that had gotten hard, I could have saved myself a bunch
of work taking the damn things off for no good reason.
