Better and better......thanks Graham ! The NHS sat in quiet-repose for a few
years and I’m working towards movement again. Both the NHS and me. Removing
the rear axle was a challenge. It wouldn’t budge. I thought that there may be
another fastener (besides the axle nut and pinch bolt) that I overlooked. Not
the case, as smart Nighthawkers know. Lubrication, drift-pin and a little more
persuasive malleting did the trick.

Here are photos of my for comparison.

I'm new to the Group; good to be among other Nighthawkers.

I removed the rear wheel to install a new tire (and lubed the drive-splines
with Honda M-77 moly paste). Sadly I did not take reference-images of the
wheel / drive-unit before removing the wheel.

The wheel has been re-installed on the drive unit and the axle inserted.
See attached images. It took a little fussing to align the wheel and
drive-unit splines but the wheel slid into place and the splines are engaged.
My concern / question is whether the splines are fully engaged (whether the
wheel has fully slid into place). It's up against a "hard-stop" and will not
further move towards the drive-unit. The right-side axle-spacer occupies the
proper location without a gap (before tightening the axle-nut) and the
swing-arm did not distort when the nut was torqued.

Per the images, unpainted-aluminum "bands" of the wheel-hub are visible on
both the drive-unit side and the brake-side. The widths of these bands are
approx. 3/8" and 1/4" respectively. I don't recall if these unpainted bands
were visible before the wheel was removed. My concern is that the exposed
bands may indicate that the wheel needs to be driven further into the
drive-unit. I'd appreciate any comments / observations / suggestions. Better
yet......to be reassured that all is well. Thank you.
