It does sound like fuel starvation. I had a similar case where I could ride my 650 at 60 MPH without a problem, but the engine died when I sped up above 65 and rode it at that speed for a few minutes. After a waiting period it would start up again and run just fine at anything below 65. In my case it was the new inline fuel filter that just didn't allow for an adequate fuel flow rate.
