Also, for any engine noise like a ticking, always check the exhaust header bolts/nuts on these old nighthawks. The nuts tend to loosen over time, and they’ll cause a ticking that sounds like a dry hydraulic tappet. You wont notice an exhaust leak, but you’ll hear a ticking, if one of the exhaust header nuts loosens. Good luck.
