The D80's meter has two known issues when used in Matrix mode. 1. It exposes about 1/3 of a stop hot (Common to every camera with the 420 pixel meter)
2. It's VERY heavily biased towards the active focus point. (Common to all the cameras with this meter, but worse on the D80). It basically acts like centre-weighted meter with the centre located at the active focus point.
