I simply LOVE the DX format. My 80-200/2.8 now has the angle of view of a 120-300/2.8. Any idea what a 120-300/2.8 would cost? And weigh? At the wide end, when I went from film to digital, I sold my 18-35 and bought a 12-24 for the same effective angle. And I never had any problems reaching for the wrong lens -- I've always thought of my lenses as "wide", "medium", and "long" rather than, say, "18mm" or "105mm". Even though my focal lengths have changed, they're still just wide, medium and long. Although if I carried a large number of primes, I might feel differently. Now, I'm not blind to the advantages of the FX format, but I don't see lenses as one of them. And I find that the quality that I get from my D300 to be more than adequate for my needs, although I realize that others may have more demanding requirements than I do. To each his own.
