language called Onyx. It's over 120 years since H.G. Wells published the War of 
the Worlds about a Martian invasion, so people did imagine all sorts of things 
100 years ago, and there are much older literary references to futuristic 
concepts. C is the main low level system language in Linux because it is 
universally supported and available at early boot - although I don't think it 
was fully finished, vdev was originally in C++ but then it was requested that 
it was changed to C, and there is some discussion of the reasons here:
