I remember that in a past communication the v2 was supposed to deal with the standard library problem, outline I believe in <https://github.com/nim-lang/RFCs/issues/371>
The idea was to transform the standard library as a collection of approved nimble packages, allowing to replace packages in future versions of the language while keeping the ability to keep old versions as nimbles for existing projects. It seems totally absent from the current discussion, and the only change proposed (remove the style insensitivity) seems far less important.
