Greetings,

Having downloaded and used it on a *very* short test, some may be interested in a
comparison with Nisus Writer 6.5 or earlier. I have no ability in using NW in a
multi-lingual document. The list below is somewhat random, like my thoughts (:

1. Nisus Writer it is not, but the genesis of actions hoped for in NW are present.

2. Styles, both paragraph and character, are not there. Admitted so in Release Notes.

3. Paragraph Rulers are not there. It is use of these visible icons in NW which
almost control my use of it. Cannot find way to show non-printing characters such as
Space, Tabs, Returns.

4. Headers, footers and margin resizing are well presented. No need to open separate
windows; type headers and footers into the working page and drag the text margins to
resize the typing area. Very good.

5. I cannot find a way to add any tabs to the text. May be there but well hidden.
Only the Left Edge [?] and Left Indent and Right Edge markers are there and getting
them to move to a different setting does not work. They are very intolerant of small
adjustments using my Trackball Wheel device. Slowing down the movement may help.

6. Columns. A very interesting treatment.

There's no manual to give guidance so I just selected Insert > Column Break. This
certainly works but the resulting appearance is strange. However, selecting Insert >
Section Break > Same Page at the point where columns are to start, gives a
satisfactory result; the number of columns is changed in the Tooldrawer.

The width of the columns can be adjusted by dragging the borders. Very good and much
better than NW because you can see the layout within the one page.

I then copied some art from a Nisus document and pasted it into one of the columns.
It pastes as an Inline Graphic because there is no separate graphics layer; I hope the
NW graphics layer is retained.

To some extent, the method of making columns within separate sections could be used
to create a page layout; not entirely satisfactory because it would interfere with
paragraph numbering if that was required, but a fair start. As a long-time fan of
Ready, Set, Go! NW+Composer has a long way to go to create individual fields.

7. The Tooldrawer and Palettes. The palettes are tear-off from the drawer so the
existing Floating Tool Bars could be incorporated. I rather liked the Tooldrawer as a
partial replacement for some of the items in the NW toolbar. Neither NW nor OC provide
the AppleWorks fields which display the Font, Size and text Style. I regard these as
required essential improvements.

8. The Toolbar of OC will, no doubt, be expanded and will allow users to customise
it. Using toolbar space for Print, Cut, Copy and Paste is a waste; having Undo and
Redo icons is useful but we really do need up to 100. NW has a bit of overkill with
its 32,000.

9. Hooray. OC has the ability to set Paragraph Spacing; normal, space-above and
space-below. NW lacks all three.

Final cooment.
In my opinion, Okito Composer will provide complementary functionality to the
existing Nisus Writer. There are a lot of good bits and if the Coming of NW X is
speeded up then we will be happier.
