No. From reading I got the impression that the HPIJS-driver,
<http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=hpijs>, really
is better. But of course, I might try other drivers, if the promise
better performance... So far the HPIJS-driver is very satisfying.
I have some problems with both the gimp and hpijs drivers. I was
"helpfully" given a DeskJet 656c to use here. HP only supported it on
the Mac up to 8.6. So, I spent my time printing to PDF, and then
printing from within Virtual PC, which was made more than frustrating
by a bug involving shared folders and QuickTime with VPC. I got
pretty good prints that way, but would prefer a better solution.

So, I've moved to 10.2.2, and downloaded both the gimp and hpijs
drivers. I find that I have to try both with a lot of jobs, as each
will succeed with one job, and fail with another. Sometimes, they
both fail, such as with a gif embedded in a PDF, which printed as a
totally black rectangle. I suspect that is more a problem with
GhostScript, though. Anyway, neither can print as much of the paper
as the Windows driver, which is disastrous for some projects, such as
a newsletter which gets its masthead chopped off in the middle.

I'll be glad to get a different printer when we go to Australia next month...
