Whenever I'm emailed an original (Windows) Word.doc file by a Windows user, this is what happens:

1.1. I get an apparent NWE.doc file (with a Nisus icon).
1.2. Double-clicking it opens it (after a long time) in NWE, with some formatting lost:
-bold, italics, underlining...
1.3. I cannot Save it, but Save it As (then it always opens in NWE).

2.1. Opening received NWE.doc with Word preserves all the formatting (bold...), and is faster.
2.2. I cannot Save it, but Save it As (then it always opens in Mac Word).

3.1. Opening received NWE.doc with TextEdit, something similar (but faster) to 2.1. happens.
3.2. To Save it, I'm prompted to either Overwrite it or Save it with New Name.
3.2.1. Overwriting it, 'keeps' the same apparent NWE.doc (let's call it nisuslook.doc).
3.2.2. Saving it with New Name, yields a NWE.doc file with new name (let's call it newnisus.doc).
3.2.3. In either case:
3.2.3.1. double-clicking nisuslook.doc / newnisus.doc does NOT open them,
3.2.3.2. launching nisuslook.doc / newnisus.doc from Open in NWE Menu does NOT open them,
3.2.3.3. launching them from Open in Word / TextEdit Menu opens them,
3.2.3.4. dragging them on Word / TextEdit opens them too.

To me, 1.1-1.3, 2.2, and 3.2-3.2.3.2 is strange behaviour. Why do I 'see' a NWE.doc file, if I'm sent a Word.doc one? In principle, if I'm sent a Word.doc file I expect a Word.doc file (that can be saved, not just saved as...), not an 'apparent' Nisus.doc file. Some explanation to all this?
TIA.
