Is there possibly a difference between creating the pic in Accounts and in the Address Book? The former is intended to be seen by others, the second is possibly intended to be seen only by the owner of the Address Book. Perhaps Mail differentiates between the two. That would fit the situation that mine (My Accounts User pic) travels and Charles's (created in Address Book) does not. Display HTML would have to be selected by the recipient in Mail/Preferences/Viewing in any case in order to see the icon-pic.

I must say, that if the usage of the Accounts User pic in Mail is automatic, which I thought it was because I found no way to prevent mine being included, I am a little surprised that hardly anyone's e-mails on this list arrive with pics.

See the Mail application Help topic "Adding a picture for someone in your Address Book" for how this works.

Sadly, upon further investigation, it turns out that Apple Mail automatically shows the pictures IF they are already in your address book. Since my own picture is in my own address book it shows up in my own e-mails. There is a way to have Apple Mail also embed the picture in mails it sends out, but I don't know how to do it.
