Yes it enables software mixing automatically, but it seems to work *only* if a 
user uses the (native) ALSA back-end. An ALSA emulated OSS back-end basically 
screws mixing.

I'm glad to see that you have trouble with Alsa as well.
So it's not only me having trouble.
It *should* enable software mixing automatically. I've read it somewhere
on the wiki.

That's the reason why I'd like to get OSSv4 working.
You don't need pulseaudio then. Less overhead. However I could'nt make
it work yet.
