AFAIK, the policy for stdenv updates is to commit them into stdenv-updates 
branch, test, then merge stdenv-updates into trunk.

Why commiting this to trunk is so important for you? Hydra builds stdenv-
updates as well, so you can commit it to stdenv-updates, and switch to this 
branch.
