compling is taken. And I don't really want to talk about linguistics. :)

All kidding aside, I think language and linguistics are rather different
animals, where language is a much more general and friendly issue, whereas
linguistics is sort of serious, scary and cryptic. (Sounds like blog
material.)

And, I think that was a *very* different situation. The work mentioned
at IJCAI was quite old (1960's) whereas the work mentioned at NAACL was
from 1999 and presented at ACL. In our Ijcai case, the relationship was
there, but it wasn't nearly as direct. But still, it's a sobering feeling
when somebody says something like this!
