As to instant messaging problem, I remember, at CEAS (email conference) there was in fact some debate during the business meeting on whether or not the messengers should be part of that conference. There was a group of serious email/anti-spam researchers (i guess, i wont open the identify) who firmly believed that the focus of this conference has to be on emails which is a big problem in itself, while there was another group who felt both these communication media should be merged and addressed together in the same environment. So that was interesting.... I guess, we don't know what they plan to do yet. I always wondered if there is any messenger data available ... I mean, dialogues collected from actual messengers, that we can make use of in our dialogue systems.
