As some of you recall, I have been working on a chapter for a word sense disambiguation book for about 100 years now (actually closer to 3 or 4 I think, but it seems like 100. :)
I think the process of creating this chapter is coming to a close, and I have arrived at a final version of sorts: http://www.d.umn.edu/~tpederse/chapter6-nov04-2005.pdf I would very much appreciate any comments, etc. you might have on this. This has been very hard to write because it has been written over a period of years, where I work on it for a few weeks, and then it sits for 6 months, and then I work on it a little more, etc. etc. So if I were to start this chapter today, I have no doubt it would turn out very differently. I have also reached a point of saturation with respect to this chapter, that is I can hardly stand to read it any more. :) So, please help. :) I fear that there are bad mistakes in the chapter that I can no longer see. So, if this wonderful introduction entices you, please check it out. It tries to tie together different unsupervised methods into a single package, in particular methods like SenseClusters (that find similar contexts), methods like LSA, that try and find similar words, and methods that use parallel text to find sense distinctions. It's a pretty weird combination, to be honest. :) I will be working on the final edits of this as of the Thanksgiving holiday (Nov 24 and thereafter) so if you could have any comments you might have to me before then, that would be great.
