I have become a CPAN tester! (Look carefully at the email address of the person submitting some the reports below, and maybe a few others for other modules, and you will see my new hobby in action).
http://cpantesters.perl.org/show/Text-NSP.html#Text-NSP-1.01 So this is a very nice idea - CPAN modules can be tested by anyone, and users report back their results via a simple command. It's very simple, and very useful as you get a whole range of platforms represented. I would strongly encourage you to become a CPAN tester, especially if you develop CPAN modules. I was driven to do this becuase there was only one test result for NSP version 1.01, and it had failed, and we knew it was because of some bizarre thing on the testers machine. In general NSP tests don't fail. But nobody else tested, so NSP looked like a failure! So, I became a CPAN tester, to show the world that NSP doesn't fail too often in fact. It was simple. I installed two CPAN modules (CPANPLUS and Test::Recorder). Then you download and test packages of interest, and when you know if they ran "make test" ok or not, you report your results via a command known as cpantest So, when NSP passed its test, I ran cpantest -g pass -p Text-NSP-1.01 The cpantest program gets system information automatically, and puts together an email message to send to the cpan testers list, which percolates up to the web site I mention above in less than a day). So, this is very easy to do, and it's really useful. As a CPAN developer, there is nothing more reassuring that seeing your code running on lots of platforms, and nothing more useful (and frustrating) than seeing it fail on one.
