I have the EEEPC 900. I really like it. The reason it is so fast (IMO) 
is that it has a lightweight desktop (I think it's icewm). Other than 
that, it's pretty normal. A console can be brought up with ctrl-alt-t 
and from there, you can add extra repositories and apt-get other stuff 
you need. I have left mine mostly stock except for adding xscreensaver 
(it does not lock otherwise when you close the cover. Not good), a 
command-line bittorrent client and a couple of other bits and pieces.

My only real complaint is that the webcam isn't very well supported. So 
far, I've only got it to work with the somewhat useless 
hardware-specific application. I understand it is supposed to work with 
the latest version of Skype (which I don't use).
