Brooke, I will take a crack at this. NLUG is aimed at Linux users in general. This means that some of the content will be advanced and some will be basic. However, that said, we do have to keep most of the people interested and that means that often, the topics of the meetings will be quite technical. My suggestion would be to go and attend meetings as the more you absorb the more you will know, but in addition, the presence of more intro level people at the meetings will encourage the topics to become more your level as well. The best suggestion I can make is to participate, both formally and informally, in the group. Attend meetings AND the social events afterwards and outside normal meetings. If you want information on a specific topic or think that it would be helpful to beginners to know about a certain part of Linux, either present on the topic yourself, get up in front of the group and ask / start a discussion among members, or organize someone else to present on the subject. Believe me, no one will object to you taking responsibility for a meeting or even just part of one. Start a beginners corner where for 15 minutes of each meeting you bring up questions and topics that are helpful to you and other beginners, we used to do something like this and it is amazing the number of people who chime in.
