Speed is not really an issue here as this will be a one off process rather
than something I do on a regular basis.  It is going to take a long time no
matter what as I will be backing up 50-100 Gb of data.  I recently realised
that I have been dumping stuff to this box for a long time and have never
made a backup of it.  So, I thought I would back it up prior to upgrading /
updating it.

Thanks for the link, it does look like a good hands on howto.
