If you are building out a Gentoo server, it takes me roughly 2 hours for a
complete LAMP w/rails server updated to the newest builds. I'd say gentoo
is wonderful for servers as i've built about 15 or so of them and they
barely need to be touched other than the occasional "world" update. I run
Gentoo on my home rig dual booted to WinXP and I can safely say that I
thoroughly enjoy it. Yes, it took me about 15 hours of downloading and
building packages but getting 100+ FPS in World of Warcraft and just overall
system stability is well worth it. Just go to sleep when it's building
packages but make sure the core Gentoo system is patched up to today before
doing an emerge -vuD world and ensure your USE flags are set for your
liking.

If anyone ever needs any help with Gentoo, please feel free to message me on
IM or Skype or whatever. I don't mind at all.
