Happy Friday, all: Have a customer with a DSL connection. Their gateway is the AT&T complimentary Netopia unit, 4 port switch with wireless and the wireless is turned off. Customer needs two internal networks isolated from each other but using the shared access to the internet. (Long story skipped to get to the point.) They have a Linksys 802.11g router/switch/WAP and a new Linksys 802.11n router/switch/WAP. Can anyone say "Double NAT?" Yes, I have one internal network, served by the Netopia, feeding two other internal networks served by each of the respective Linksys routers. It works - but.
Double NAT is not a big deal because the customer is not internet intensive. We are no longer connecting to them via OpenVPN. The 802.11n unit was bought to some extent because the prior 802.11g unit is having WAN brain clouds on a daily basis requiring a power cycle to clear. I have been looking on Google for the "perfect solution" which would be a DSL gateway/router with more than just a 4 port hub or switch. It would be cool to eliminate the intermediate internal network. Bridge you ask? Thought about that. Only have one public IP address and I don't think it is static. Could bridge into a computer playing router but would like to stay with the appliance model box without hard disks, fans and other moving parts. Just did learn about dual DSL routers but they go the "wrong way." They bring two WANs into one LAN, not one WAN into two LANs... Have not read enough to know that one might not run it "backwards." ;) Anyone tried this? So I shall likely go to yonder big box store and acquire another router in place of the flaky 802.11g Linksys and now we don't need WAP. If anyone knows of a simpler appliance box solution for what I've described, I'd appreciate thoughts.
