On some distributions, there is also a command called "info".  Some programs 
have "info" documentation, some have "man" documentation, and some have both.  
So, try "info <topic>" as well as "man <topic>".

For the most part yes. Anything new and old is usually accessible either by 
typing "man <enter command here>"; i.e. man ls, man cp, etc... Or you can also 
search the web for usage documentation on a command. One of the good things 
about Linux is the fact that the commands pretty much stay the same. Unless of 
course in an upgrade new switches or functionality are added.

Thanks for telling me about linuxcommand.org that is a definite
bookmark.

I was wondering... I've found a lot of older books on Linux in the
public library, many published any where from 1999 to 2006 (anything
newer is hard to get a hold of).  Older books on Linux, would you say
they are still worth the read?  Technology changes so fast I know a
lot of the information in these books must be way outdated.  But do
the basic always remain the same?
