Others have made good comments. <http://tldp.org> is another source of information. UNIX is forty years old even though we would be hard pressed to recognize v0.01 from then. The whole architecture has stood the test of time; the basics DO remain the same. Unfortunately, the names are changed from time to time to confuse the innocent...
