All the options given so far are good ones.  It's been a while since
I've used a straight up LDAP based DS.  However, here's how I would
choose:
If I need a small, light on memory and resources directory, OpenLDAP.
If I need a larger, replicated Directory, RedHat Directory Server.

Multimaster replication does require some pre-planning, as you don't
want to do Directory Services by the seat of your pants.
