Naaah, if I remember correctly, his model uses some kind of SH/arm architecture. So that's entirely out of the question, sadly. I'd probably suggest NetBSD or Debian. They can have pretty tiny install bases, and work pretty well with arm. You could probably even make a waycool dialog-based UI for the alarmclock.
