Just to be clear, your customer has a Windows 7 box with USB HD

I'm supposing
a) they have tried using the same login credentials on Vista as W7
b) Vista comes back that it can't reach the share without other error
messages
c) these machines are on the same network and going through the same routers
d) if using domains, etc. that they are using the same

This group is the best! TNX for taking time for my issues.

Paul, I visited with the customer but have not had "hands on" time. You have given me four things to go test. Yes, the USB HD is connected to the W7 box. You have read my problem statement correctly.

a) Wherein are the credentials established? Mind you I am confusing Win98, WinNT, Samba2, Samba3, WinXP and now Vista, W7 :) I don't know that I have seen the same combination of credentialization in more than one place.

b) Have not seen the actual error messages. Customer is not real sophisticated about reporting error messages (like most). Specific "it doesn't work." Time to get more general...

c) oh yeah, we're talking 3 computers within one LAN.

d) pretty sure there is no domain / PDC yada, yada, yada. Strictly file and printer shares.

Yes Mike, looking for the group name is good practice. Again, no hands on time yet. I've even seen this with Samba2 and Samba3 in a linux only environment.

Thanks for the pointers. I'll be back :)

Howard
