Typically any program that can record debits and credits, and provide
reports will work.
One can either use ERPs which typically use middleware,
or programs like
Quickbooks/Peachtree/KMoney/MoneyDance/LinuxLedger/GnuCash/PostBooks
to run the accounts.

ERP : Oracle, SAP, openpro, ERP5, xTuple, compiere, adiempere,
Dynamics, Netsuite,

Other: Accpac, AppGen, Mas90, Soloman, Infor, PeopleSoft, MYOB,
Nolapro, openBravo, opentaps, posterita, ofBiz, jpos, lemon, banal,
sql-ledger. etc.
