I have ripped much of my music collection to MP3's, so that I can listen to
them on my BlackBerry while at work. However, some of the music was recorded
at a low volume, some at a higher volume. This means that I sometimes turn up
the player volume in order to hear a low-volume tune, only to have to turn the
volume back down again later to avoid blasting my eardrums. Can anyone
recommend a utility program, preferably on Linux, that could be used to save a
low-volume piece of music to a new file, with a higher average volume but
without distorting how the music sounds?
