Service going out has been very rare. There was a couple of days when it went down in our neighborhood once about three years ago, that was the longest down time, sounds like some central point went down that took a while to fix. My wife just decided we needed to switch to AT&T UVerse. (The salesman was billing it as less expensive, but I showed it was almost the exact same cost, possibly a few dollar more with taxes/fees as what we had been doing. "The internet will be so much faster than DSL", we didn't have the base DSL so his recommended speed would be the same as what we had plus voice and TV going across. My wife still wanted to try it.) The jury is still out on UVerse (TV and phone at least). It's been one problem after another. They keep giving us free upgrades for a time and promising things will get better and "this isn't the way it's supposed to be", "please give us a chance to make it right"... Then the techs get there (initial install and trouble shooting) and they seem somewhat exasperated or put-out about being there at all and like they want to leave ASAP whether they see the problems or not, whether they are fixed or not. The most recent thing was "you shouldn't have been billed for that [$300 of installation charges]" which isn't resolved yet because the fax number they gave me "The number you have reached is disconnected or no longer in service".... In summary, AT&T DSL was fine. UVerse computer-internet has been largely fine so far. If you have problems... be sure you have at least an hour to stay on hold (to connect to different people who might be able to assist you, or not).
