I am a bit late, so someone may have said something I have not read yet. Last Windows box that I had to resurrect I put the drive in one of my LInux boxes and enabled the proper file system.
I was not able to get that drive to work on a Windows box at all. I was able to recover better than 95% of the data on the drive (certainly everything that I was interested in) and move it over the network to the replacement box by setting up SAMBA on the linux box. That has been a while ago. That particular time the drive was running XP, YMMV.
