Greetings!
Here's my set-up:
Fedora 17, 64-bit, Kernel 3.6.6-1
KDE desktop
Intel 4300 CPU (dual core @ 1.8GHz)
2 GB of RAM
plenty of hard drive space
Audio card: Ensoniq 5880B (PCI)
I'm using this system to stream audio to the internet. The audio
consists of me singing along with "karaoke" tracks stored on this box.
More info on the software used to create the audio:
= Using the "Phonon Gstreamer" audio backend
= VLC plays the "karaoke" file (merely an OGV, FLV, or MP3 that includes
music and video of the scrolling lyrics)
= I use "XFCE4-mixer" to mix the music and voice input
= "Broadcast Using This Tool" (aka "BUTT") is used to generate the audio
stream from the mixer output.
= Voice input comes from an external mic, plugged into the MIC input of
the sound card.
So... what is my objective? All I want to do is add reverb to the audio
input, but not the music. It seems that it should be fairly simple, but
I haven't been able to find that magic combination of
software/hardware/settings to make it work.
I've got JACK and various JACK-related applications installed, but
haven't been able to get it all patched properly. I'm willing to change
any/all of the applications I'm using, provided none of the existing
functionality is lost. (I'm aware that a low latency kernel might be
needed.) I'd even change sound cards if necessary, provided that the
alternatives are cheap.
Does anyone have any suggestions on alternative applications, or on how
to get these existing parts to play nice with each other?
Thanks for any/all advice you can offer!!
JMJ
