For grins, earlier this fall I wasted a little time once trying to get a
VirtualBox Plan9:

but did not get it going, but didn't really waste any more time on it
either since.

I recall it vaguely from back in the day when it was still "new".  A
college buddy of mine had it loaded up on something he had cobbled
together (non-Intel), and it reminded me of the early Macintoshes. Back
then, anything so GUI like that was really something special.

Hard to believe it's coming up on 30 years ago now! :)

Hackaday just had a posting about a Plan9 port to the Pi.

Plan9 (name taken from the cult movie "Plan9 from Outer Space") was
described as 'more Unix than Unix' back in the day.
It has and allows multiple 'display stations', storage computers, compute
computers, etc.  Quite interesting really.
And yes, it was really used at Bell Labs by everyone from secretarial
pool, bosses, everyone.
