LOL. Yeah, back in the 90s, many of my clients used mainly Wyse 50 and Wyse 60 terminals. I even still have a functional Wyse 50 and a couple of Wyse 60 terminals that were given to me as people switched out to PC and LAN connectivity. Mine are in the attic now. For a few years I used to keep one of the Wyse 60s hooked up to an Annex RS232 port server for a log "tail -f". But I eventually retired that too. Of course, Wyse thin-clients (aka, Winterms) have been around for years too, but until buying some of these just recently, I hadn't used any Wyse brand equipment for years now, though one group of my clients still use a Cobol-based warehouse management app that runs on Linux and uses PowerTerm on Windows with WYSE50 emulation to this very day. Scary to think what we used to have to pay for a brand new Wyse 50 back in the day. :)

As 'admin', you can get to root no problem and even change the apt-get sources to pull in mainstream packages. I pulled in telnet, but it comes with ssh by default. You can download latest firmware free from Dell. http://www.wyse.com/products/cloud-clients/thin-clients/T50 I got mine at $60/each. These units are small enough and come with mounting brackets for the wall and/or the back of the monitor. While these are Dec 2011 manufacture date, this T50 is still sold by Dell for around $275. These are not the wifi models, btw. For what it is, a thin client, so far I have been fairly impressed. The T50 (like anything) has some issues, but Wyse does seem to be trying to iron them out with ongoing firmware releases. Of course, YMMV, but I thought I would share.
