Just a bit of critical thinking, This is the internet we are talking about. 
What does the size of ones country have to do with the distance from one point 
in the world to any other point? It is the same distance from here to Taipei as 
it is from Taipei to here.

There is a chance it is density, if you have a high density, you could possibly 
take advantage of economies of scale with less outlay. 

It probably has a lot more to do though with the human price. How much of your 
service price is paying salaries, and what must those salaries be in that area. 
From a quick google search, median monthly income for Taipei is 61,083 TWD or 
2014.273 US Dollar. So if median yearly income is about $24,000 USD, the human 
component of that bill will be a lot less.

Might be a bit more for him given the information above. $2 USD is equivalent 
to 60 TWD.
