In case I have not said it enough, I really apreciate the assistance and advice
I get from this group. Evan after years of running linux I keep coming up with
head scratchers.

Setup:
Running NIS on CentOS 5.11 on one machine (nis0), SAMBA on CentOS 5.11 on
another machine (smb0), and CentOS 6.6 on yet another machine (vcn0).
I have two users Barry and Bruce.
Both users are members of a group called ciao that mounts via nfs into
/home/ciao on any of the three machines (nis0, smb0, vcn0).
Both users are members of a group called canon that mounts via nfs into
/home/canon on any of the three machines (nis0, smb0, vcn0).
Both Barry and Bruce can ssh into any and all of the machines (nis0, smb0,
vcn0).
Both Barry and Bruce can use SAMBA to log into the SAMBA server (smb0) and
access (read, ls, move around, etc.) /home/ciao and /home/canon.
Permissions on each directory are drwxrws—.

Problem:
Bruce can ssh into any of the machines (nis0, smb0, vcn0) and access (read,
ls, move around, etc.) /home/ciao and /home/canon.
Barry can ssh into any of the machines (nis0, smb0, vcn0) and access (read,
ls, move around, etc.) /home/canon
Barry can ssh into any of the machines (nis0, smb0, vcn0) but can not access
(read, ls, move around, etc.) /home/ciao and gets a permission denied error.

Why can Bruce have full access but Barry not have access? Where do I need to
look?

I hope this is clear and not too simplified.

Thanks,

Bruce
