In terms of auto-updaters: dreamhost will do the autoupdates as well for
wordpress (and many other tools you can install via their "one-click
goodies" manager). however, wp.org is awesome too!

In terms of hosting: Are you storing any of that video in your account? The
vimeo and youtube, that's going to be coming from their respective data
stores, but if you are serving the S3 video from your acct to your acct via
the S3 protocol (and not using Amazon S3 storage itself), then I wonder how
much of that $800/month is for the data storage of the video itself vs the
web server proper. Do you know how that price breakdown works? Regardless,
+1 to the hosting content on Providers A/B/C and have your web site hosted
on Providers 1/2/3. But it's hard to say what could be "cheaper" without
knowing how much you would have to store data-wise on that account.

Last, in terms of migrating a site from Joomla to WP, it really depends on
the complexity of the site. Video plugins are likely going to work without
much trouble, but if you have a large user base, administrator setup,
billing information, etc that could be a little more difficult to move
over. But not impossible, and having worked with both I'd go for WP over
Joomla every time.

wesley
