Many people outside of retail also don't realize that cash isn't free.  For
a restaurant, gas station, etc., they typically have an employee make the
deposit, and that comes with the risk of robbery.  For a larger store they
pay for armored car service.  The bank also charges fees for cash
deposits.  The cards typically cost a bit more than cash, but the
convenience often drives higher sales.
