I've never encountered the situatiln where a local MTA refused to
accept a connection from 127.0.0.1, so I think I have my own
opinion on what the likely default should be.

Alternatively, rather than having to configure each MUA with the name
and/or characteristics of one of a set of MTA implementations, you
could just use the one standardized interface/protocol, SMTP on port 25.
