Sounds good to me if it's doable, assuming the YYYYMMDD you're talking about
is the date of check-in of the newest file amongst those you're compiling
(presumably including non-compiled files like scan.man).

I'm sure it's very rare for someone to run cvs update on just a single file
rather than the whole tree, so having the YYYYYMMDD be meaningless due to
that would seem not be an issue.
