Stephen,

You can transfer money directly from a savings account into an expense  
bucket so that isn't the problem. What you might have done is assign  
that bucket to the wrong side of a transfer. You probably wanted the  
credit side from the checking account to be assigned to that bucket  
and not the debit side that exists in the savings account.
