It seems like the original resolution was probably the best for everyone involved. The number of people who actually wanted to have both installed is probably like zero.
An issue with renaming node, which is going to make it untenable at this point, is that it's already in hundreds of thousands or millions of computers, using the name node, and all the myriad documentation out there, and on and on. This is server software...it's like renaming apache. It's too late to rename node, no matter how misguided it was to name it something generic.
