Think this hits the important point, people have different needs & 
expectations that are not always reflected in a single community. Back in 
the day I think it was fairly obvious Java app-servers were based on flawed 
fundamentals and should never have taken off, the fact they did speaks to 
needs beyond having the best solution for the problem at hand.

Today though I wonder if you looking for the wrong answer, is the new 
application server not a PaaS API?
