We spent a lot of time making sure the quality of NodeConf was higher than
almost anything we'd seen.

When the videos were done and we started running through them some of them
didn't meet that quality standard. It had nothing to do with the recording
quality or the speaker or the talk, some talks just don't come off nearly as
well as a video than they do as a talk, especially when they include audience
participation.

We edited 3 videos that translated about as well to video as they did live.
We're considering a few others, we'll see what they look like after editing.
The rest I won't release, they aren't good enough. To me, there's no point in
releasing a video about something you could read about unless it's amazing and
actually conveys the ideas better than you could read them in text. NodeConf
isn't like other conferences, we don't do things just to do them, and we put
more resources in to these videos in order to convey the ideas of the speakers
as well if not better than what we saw live.

You can view the videos we have done here:

It may seem strange for us to record all the talks but not release them but
this is actually exactly what TED does, so it's not unprecedented.

For NodeConf this year we don't have traditional "talks", we're doing hybird
hands-on sessions and some other activities, so we won't be doing traditional
recording at all. We'll be shooting video all day in order to construct a short
documentary about NodeConf 2013 but the format doesn't really allow us to
record anything that could convey the sessions.
