Please be advised that Ports and myself are currenting in league with budget
and FA and RFA. My team was last when I got it and for the last 2 yr still
last. So explain to me how this system more the bad team/s better??????????
As for the best players becoming available well they don't! They continue to
sign/keep them and let the other players go and fill in with what's available.
Sorry but I LOVE/D the old baseball before FA. Everything that is bad in the
game today came when Curt Flood won FA for players. I like/d that my team the
Yankees kept Munson, Mantle, Tresh, Pepitone, Bearra, etc year after year. I
know that some of the others in this league do also but some are too young to
have lived through that.

Interesting theories abound to improve the lowly cubs! Losing 15 in a row must
be
some kind of record, albeit dubious...
I am spending $12M of my $85M payroll for Philip Rivers this year... We carry
53 players.
I am scurrying about trying to come up with a cheaper replacement for him and
trying to
balance the team with that kind of megastar on it, and having loads of fun !!!
Now, I could let him go and he enters the free agent draft and the first pick
costs 8M,
2nd and 3rd costs 6M, ... and his value will be quickly determined by the other
mgrs...
I am guessing the max, $8M. On the other hand, I have to let Joseph Addai go
since
he will cost $8M (see they increase every year..) but I suspect he will fall in
the free agent
draft to maybe a 2-3M draft pick (injured and not many yards last year)... see
how it works?
The format of having to balance a roster with the players expense is very
realistic, dynamic,
and great fun! It will make the non-carded draft choices even more important I
suspect.
Now, imagine you have Pujols in our league. He is a major expense and grows
more each
year... how to afford him, do you want to afford him?... Finally when you let
him go, the
'stinkiest' team picks him up in the free agent draft for $8M and suddenly the
stinker may
be a contender! I love this recirculation of star players (meaning other teams
get a chance to
pick them up). Otherwise in our league, once you get Pujols... he never leaves
until your
cold, dead finger's rigorous grip finally loosens... ha, ha!
My purpose in this email is not to knock our league's way of doing things but
to let you see
another way SOM hobby leagues do things, and possibly how to get more fun out
of it! Now,
change is a terror to some people so I will not propose it for our league so
don't worry! I joined
this league and will continue to follow our rules until my curiosity is sated
or I no longer find it
interesting. But the cubs have a seven pitcher rotation ! Is that not cool or
what?!

Then you would be incorrect. Chesp is a good example and by his own words
stunk the last 2 yrs but has been to the playoffs and in 2005 MELBOURNE
beat Chesapeake Highlanders in 7 games. Lou has been the only manager for
Chesp and if you research his draft this year had the best draft of anyone
and should be a force very soon for years to come. He also traded after the
draft for Tommy Hanson, and Clayton Kershaw so don't tell me that
teams don't trade but either. It is true that lately the new managers are
trading less but that is up to them. Also teams have changed names
everything they get a new manager so even if you recd the last 5 yrs only a
few would have same names so you would be able to follow them. I have
listed 07 and 04 and you will see GEN near 500 in 04 but the manager didn't
like the draft picks and trade them all or most away. His final season he
finally realized the value of those draft picks. (I my self had with the
very last pick of the NOMBL draft pick # 200 drafted Brian McCann! NOTE:
in 04 there was NO U stink draft it was something that was suppose to be a 1
year thing to help only the worst teams! Bottom line is teams can, do, and
have gone worst to near 1st but those that put in the effort get the reward.
This also has to do with how much effort is put into the CMI. Those that
don't fill out the chart for each player/pitcher separately have problems
winning because the bull pen is over used and picked at random to pitch or
starters can be limited to 6 or 7 IP per start. However most teams don't
fill them out and wonder why their pitchers get used up so quickly.
Bottom line there is many reasons why teams win or don't win.

I think Mike has a very good email here. I would be very curious to see the
final results of the last 5 years. I would say if the majority of bottom
teams stay on bottom there is a problem. What I have seen in the last 2
years of drafting is that a lot of the stinky teams end up spending thier
high draft picks on desperate need for innings just to get through the year
and not really getting an opportunity to pick up the players that will help
thier team improve. I don't know if there is an answer out there but I don't
think the "pity draft" really helps the lower teams enough. Maybe some kind
of supllamental round after the first round for teams that have been in the
bottom 8 two years in a row or something.
