I've just had a thought and, knowing that you are a big fan of the document
switcher I realised that it's not so much the fact that it appears that I
dislike
but the fact that the animation of the tabs (to show the current tab) doesn't
work when the document switcher is enabled and used with Ctrl+Tab.

It would be fine to have the document switcher enabled as long as the tab
animation
also worked with the document switcher enabled.

Is this possible?

Remember, in good UI design, the aim is to provide behaviour that users expect
from certain controls. We expect tabbed controls to animate and show us which
document we're switching to and this works exactly as you'd expect with the
document switcher disabled but to remove this behavour when the document
switcher
is enabled affects usability of Notepad++ from a UI point of view -- you're
changing behavour of the control.

I've saved a few things as plain text, but when I go to open the text file,
WinXP asks me what application I wish to use to open it. Notepad++ is not on
the list, so instead I have to first fire up Notepad++ then click File > Open
and navigate to the file. Isn't there a way to just double click the file name
and open it with Notepad++, especially since I created the file originally with
Notepad++.

I'm using 3.9 if it matters.

WinXP (fully patched/updated), 2.8GHz Pentium dual, 2 Gig RAM. Load time of
NP++ is over 60 seconds due to Explorer and because the PC has 4 mapped drives
to network servers and one USB external drive. Disconnecting the USB external
drive results in about a 50 second startup time for NP++. Disconnecting all
mapped network drives results in a 10 second startup time. And, obviously,
disabling Explorer completely results in NP++ startup less than 1 second.

I can actually disconnect all my network mapped drives, start NP++, re-attach
to my mapped drives in 45 seconds...FASTER than NP++ will start on its own
because
of (I assume) the shell icons. I too would vote for the option to disable this
function via setting, regain the performance of the "old" Explorer...which was
superb IMHO. I realize I can simply disable the Explorer function in the new
release, but it is disappointing to lose the functionality and performance that
was previously available.

Ok, 60 seconds is very slow! At best you contact me via mail and we will try
to find out the problem. With a remote session.

Best Regards
Jens

About long-time loading.
Some advice: use separate thread to load icons into explorer. This is normal
practice and works pretty fast.

Guten Tag Nobody/Anonymous (nobody),

1. I don't think you need a plug-in to run a compiler. You could use the 'Run'
menu to launch the Java compiler, using $(FULL_CURRENT_PATH) as parameter on
the command line to indicate the file that needs to be compiled.
If you need to perform multiple steps, you can write a batch file that calls
the compiler and subsequently the linker, for example. For more info on the
Run variables, see http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/run-HOWTO.php

2. If you want to write a plug-in for Np++, you'll have to write a Windows DLL.
So far, the only examples available are all written in C++. I've been trying
to get one in Delphi to work, but it hasn't worked so far.
Take a look at http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/plugins-HOWTO.php for
the information currently available.

Tsch??,
--
Martijn

First let me congratulate you.
I love Notepad++ and use it since years and it only gets better, keep on.
I converted scores of people to using it.
There are a couple of small features which would make Notepad++ even better
for me:
It would be great if one could use an inbuilt language as a starting point for
a user defined language, I have to deal with several weird proprietary
languages,
which resemble closely C++ or xml.
I also would like to see an easier import/export for user defined languages
from within notepad++ (as opposed to copy/paste from an xml file) as was
suggested
earlier (import/export for the style configurator would also be nice).

Thanks again for this nice program
Ralf

Don:

Update -- I pounded on v4.0 RC for about 4 days, with no sign of instability.
I did not restart N++ during that time. I would have run it longer, but I had
to reboot XP.

So far so good! I'll let you know if there are any more problems, but consider
this one fixed!

Thanks,

-Ken

Oops... just noticed that the Edit menu already has "Set read Only" and "Clear
read only Flag" options. That's great and should be even enough...

Still there is the issue of not warning when writing the file is unsuccessful,
either because of the read-only property or the access rights.

Regarding the performance issue:

I created a new binary. But there is one pb. The interface of Notepad will
changed
a little bit in final release. However, this version of explorer will not work
with the current RC version of Notepad. Please contact me via mail to get all
new files.

Best Regards
Jens

Just to complete the information : it's about Explorer plugin performance issue.
If you have such problem, please help us to test the improved version.
