Today I noticed that Notepad++ (v3.9) also seems to have a problem with
detecting
access right on files. After editing a configuration file and saving it using
Notepad++, I discovered that nothing had changed. Notepad++ did not give any
error message on this.

The behaviour in this case (and all cases where the write attempt is
unsuccessful)
should be: At least a warning to the user. I case of wrong access rights, the
option to save the file somewhere else is the only alternative. In case of the
read-only property, an option of removing the read-only property from within
Notepad++ is also very useful. There is no real objection to do this: if a user
can do this using the Explorer, why not make it easier and allow to do this
form Notepad++.

The mos ideal situation would be:
Give a warning about the failing write-attempt, with three options:
- save under a different name/location,
- remove read-only property permanently
- re-apply read-only property after saving the file
In effect, the same you could do using the Explorer, but much easier for the
user!

Don,
can I expect any update about reparsing perfomance issue?
I think since it's basic functionality's issue then it should have higher
priority
than plugins issues.

Thanks,
Alexander

Currently the status bar/line displays the current line, column and number of
selected characters. I would like to see the number of selected lines instead
or as well.

Is there a function that can take a one line jscript file and format it nicely
so I can read and print it?
And also is there a function that can take a jscript file and format it as one
line?

Thanks in advance,
Donald

Hello Alexander,

parsing to highlight the code is done by scintilla. And when somebody has to
fix it, then it's up to Don. If you read the above posts you see, that there
are problem on startup regarding the explorer and this is my plugin and my
issue.
I try to fix it, because I think that many users wants to have explorer on
startup!
Therefore the priority is the same for me.

Best Regards
Jens

You could use Regular expression in Replace Dialog, but unfortunately I couldn't
create experssion that would delete the new line characters at the end of the
line. So with your example:

ABC
XYZ
ABCXYZ
12345

Ctrl+H for Replace dialog. Put the following without the quotes: "^.*XYZ.*$"
in 'Find what' and leave 'Replace with' empty, than Click 'Replace All' and
you get:

ABC

12345

I hope that works for you. Afterwards you can delete all consequent new lines
using the Ctrl+R Find/Replace dialog by entering a new line (Shift+Enter) in
Find field.

Here '^' matches start of line '.*' matches any string, 'XYZ' maches "XYZ" and
'$' matches end of line.

Please add the escape key for immediate exiting. Sometimes I just want to take
a quick peek in a file and exit right away, but then if I change the file I
get a confirmation window after selecting the exit option through the menu,
and that's a bit annoying. Thanks. Carlos

Thanks for thee great tool, I'm using it extensively! But there is one issue
I'd like to see resolved: When using multiple monitors (e.g. 2 in my case: the
screen of my laptop and an additional attached LCD panel in my office) I can
move notepad++ to the secondary screen and work with it there. BUT: Notepad++
remembers the position and will start next time at exactly the same location
on the desktop, even if the second monitor is not attached (then of course the
windows is 'gone' or out of reach). As soon as this happens one can only use
notepad++ maximized.

Hi!
When will you be able to release final version of NP++ 4.0? Are there still
critical bugs left? Will there be an "automatic autocomplete-feature", as
mentioned
in the forum?

Thanks,

Dom.

Ok, I got it - thank you for clarifications, Jens.
Eh...I was suspecting that it's scintilla's functionality, but I hoped that
you have some interfaces to control it.
All I need is just a small timeout after keypress to start delayed reparsing
of code...
It's so pity that I can use np++ only as viewer and not as editor due to this
performance issue :(

Best regards,
Alexader
