I'd like to see Notepad++ allow me to custom color a function name, so that
it isn't just regular text. It'd be cool if, when a function is called and
previously
defined, it would underline it and I could click on that function name and it
would scroll up in the file (or in a seperate file) where the function
was defined
I'd also like to change the color of children elements.

I just updgraded to version 4.1, the newest version. If I delete/backspace
over any apostrophy or double-quote ( ' or " ), then all the html tags in the
document turn green, as well as all the URL's below where I made the edition.
The colors change back to the way they're supposed to look if I move my system's
focus off of notepad++.exe (if I click any other window or even just click the
desktop), as well as if I minimize then restore notepad++ window.

I take it back. EVERYTHING you do in v4.1 does this.

Hello,
does anybody know where the settings are saved, I want to backup them plus I
want to use the old settings for the new version I've just downloaded, it seems
all this is undocumented. I would love the application to ask on the very first
start where the settings should be saved because I prefer a custom location.
thx
stax

I just downloaded and tried the newly release v4.1.
Two problems I spotted.
- On the Find dialogs the 'close' button got lost. (I'm very pleased with the
new find-in-files by the way.)
- My links are now underlined, but when I click on them nothing happens. I
was expecting the link to open in my browser.
Thanks for the new release. Some great new features in this one!

Yeah! I think the same. Your editor rules. But could be better with a function
that makes the Search & Replace experience better.
I have to change EditPlus to make Search & Replace to many lines and to change
tabs with new lines.
Hope someboy read this and make it.
Cheers from Per?

You could try the TextFX Tools submenu. I sort at a column by ALT-selecting
a block starting at the column where I want to begin sorting. Or I mark the
complete block in the normal way to sort the block according to the start of
the line. Then I select the appropriate TextFX Tools sort menu item. I know
this works in 4.0.2. --Joel

That sounds like the bug a couple of plugins had. Rename the old versions of
the dlls in the plugins directory to temporary names and restart Notepad++ and
retry the find, as a test. You can obtain updated versions from the
https://sourceforge.net/projects/npp-plugins web site. --Joel

You might be able to edit the stylers.xml file outside of Notepad++ if you want
to change hex codes.
The function plugin shows functions for code in supported languages, like C
or C++ for example. If you have some C source code in the editor, the function
list should show existing functions if the language menu shows that C is
checked.

It has a checkbox on the installer that allows one to choose whether to save
settings in the %APPDATA%\Notepad++ directory or not. If not, it saves to the
directory where it was installed. The default for that is "C:\Program
Files\Notepad++\", I think.
%APPDATA% will vary depending on the user and OS. On Windows XP it's
"C:\Documents
and Settings\<user>\Application Data". --Joel

See Plugins > ConvertExt... > Options... and look on the Notepad++ tab in the
dialog that appears. You'll see a Brackets Autocompletion checkbox in 4.0.2
that should give you what you are looking for when checked. --Joel

The find stuff does look more useful.
I believe you have to double-click the underlined link to get it to launch in
the default browser. I noticed it doesn't work with https://stuff, just
http://.
